Jesus had a purpose from the beginning. He was building a force to reach the world with the gospel. That is your purpose as you train men as well. His disciples were to learn what to do, believe, and teach. They learned by watching Him.
His disciples were to bear witness, be witnesses, take the gospel to the world. He felt like life-on-life discipleship was enough. With-ness, togetherness, was sufficient preparation to turn the world upside down in a generation.
John 15:27 And ye also shall bear witness, because ye have been with me from the beginning.
When God began significantly using the disciples, people saw that the only preparation they had was with-ness, togetherness, life on life discipleship had worked.
Acts 4:13 Now when they saw the boldness of Peter and John, and perceived that they were unlearned and ignorant men, they marvelled; and they took knowledge of them, that they had been with Jesus.
Jesus had taught them by imitation, telling them to follow Him and imitate, mimic Him. They would learn to fish for men by watching Jesus fish for men.
Mark 1:17 And Jesus said unto them, Come ye after me, and I will make you to become fishers of men.
Jesus taught them through His relationship with them. They weren’t His disciples or academic students but His family. They caught it, not just were taught it! His spirit touched their spirits, and His heart imparted into their hearts. The vision was born, motivation inspired, commitment instilled, Jesus was the textbook. They saw the truth lived out in a person. They saw faith alive.
He was not their supervisor but rather their mentor. He cared about the disciples. He invested His life in them.
Let’s get our men out in the streets. Let’s do life with them. Let your life impact their life. When the Bible College starts, you will have less time with them. They need you more than they need a textbook.
It would help if you were worthy of intimating. Your life will be their textbook. They will do what you do.
