Stranger Danger

Proverbs 2:16 To deliver thee from the strange woman, Even from the stranger which flattereth with her words; 17 Which forsaketh the guide of her youth, And forgetteth the covenant of her God. 18 For her house inclineth unto death, And her paths unto the dead. 19 None that go unto her return again, Neither take they hold of the paths of life.
God means for marriage to be super special
It is to be a picture of the relationship that Jesus has with the church Ephesians 5:32 This is a great mystery: but I speak concerning Christ and the church.
The relationship is a divine one, ordained by God
This relationship is an eternal one
There is no threat involved
Jesus loved us first and pursues us
He is never unfaithful to us
It is to be a lifetime commitment of one man to one woman, a covenant I Timothy 3:2 A bishop then must be blameless, the husband of one wife, vigilant, sober, of good behaviour, given to hospitality, apt to teach;
It is pictured and explained as a one flesh relationship, used five times in the Bible Ephesians 5:31 For this cause shall a man leave his father and mother, and shall be joined unto his wife, and they two shall be one flesh.
The two are now one, a new union
This union is so special that it is to take precedence over all others, the couple choose each other over parents or children
Biblically even their bodies do not belong to themselves but to their spouse
The couple is not to live a self centered life but a spouse centered life
Their marriage and relationship is more about Christ and His purposes than about each other
The strange woman or man, the stranger poses great danger for any marriage
Everyone but your spouse is to be considered a strange person to you
How do you recognize the strange person
Smooth talker, watch the way they talk to you
Flattery is smooth, slick, deceiving, excessive praise, insincere Proverbs 2:16 To deliver thee from the strange woman, Even from the stranger which flattereth with her words;
Sweet, slick talker Proverbs 5:3 For the lips of a strange woman drop as an honeycomb, And her mouth is smoother than oil:
She uses her fair speech or smooth words to convince him Proverbs 7:21 With her much fair speech she caused him to yield, With the flattering of her lips she forced him.
The stranger knows how to use words to convince you
The stranger makes you feel good about your wrong decisions
You will feel that you have to agree and make that decision
As a believer you should be more concerned about what the truth in Scripture says than fair speeches
Your helplessness is caused by your selfish ignorance
Watch out for the excessive concern for the externals Proverbs 6:24 To keep thee from the evil woman, From the flattery of the tongue of a strange woman. 25 Lust not after her beauty in thine heart; Neither let her take thee with her eyelids.
Your hunger for what you want is where the problem starts, lust not
It is your stinking thinking in your heart
Victory is yours if you learn to think in Biblical terms
Watch out for the secret winks, looks, hints of interest from the stranger’s eyes Proverbs 6:25 Lust not after her beauty in thine heart; Neither let her take thee with her eyelids.
They dress to call attention to themselves. The attire of a harlot Proverbs 7:10 And, behold, there met him a woman With the attire of an harlot, and subtil of heart.
There are clothes a modest woman wears that preserves her dignity and beauty, true of man or woman
She saves herself for her husband and home, as well as does the husband for his wife
The stranger is subtle, cunning, crafty, insinuating, deceitful, treacherous
She is hard to figure out Proverbs 5:6 Lest thou shouldest ponder the path of life, Her ways are moveable, that thou canst not know them.
When you have no truth you have no stability
This person changes from day to day
She, the stranger, doesn’t like to stay at home Proverbs 7:11 (She is loud and stubborn; Her feet abide not in her house: 12 Now is she without, now in the streets, And lieth in wait at every corner.)
Very opinionated and clings stubbornly to what they think even if it is wrong
They desire to be out with friends and away from truth
They hang out waiting to sin
The stranger can be very daring Proverbs 7:13 So she caught him, and kissed him, And with an impudent face said unto him,
The stranger makes daring moves, grabbing and kissing
The stranger has bold faced contempt for decency and right
No fear, no bashfulness, no concern over their wickedness
Has little or no conscience, nobody is going to know Proverbs 30:20 Such is the way of an adulterous woman; She eateth, and wipeth her mouth, And saith, I have done no wickedness.
The stranger uses religion to profit and cloak her sin Proverbs 7:14 I have peace offerings with me; This day have I payed my vows.
The stranger seeks the other, the fool to sin together Proverbs 7:15 Therefore came I forth to meet thee, Diligently to seek thy face, and I have found thee.
Makes preparation for their sin Proverbs 7:16 I have decked my bed with coverings of tapestry, With carved works, with fine linen of Egypt. 17 I have perfumed my bed With myrrh, aloes, and cinnamon.
Their secret sin will satisfy for the moment Proverbs 7:18 Come, let us take our fill of love until the morning: Let us solace ourselves with loves.
Complete disregard for their spouse, just a desire to find pleasure in sin Proverbs 7:19 For the goodman is not at home, He is gone a long journey: 20 He hath taken a bag of money with him, And will come home at the day appointed.
She has no character Proverbs 2:17 Which forsaketh the guide of her youth, And forgetteth the covenant of her God.
Doesn’t listen to what she has been taught
Forgets the promises she made and what God has commanded
Listen to the warnings the wise father gave his son, Consequences of getting involved with strangers Proverbs 7:7 And beheld among the simple ones, I discerned among the youths, A young man void of understanding, 8 Passing through the street near her corner; And he went the way to her house, Proverbs 7:22 He goeth after her straightway, As an ox goeth to the slaughter, Or as a fool to the correction of the stocks; 23 Till a dart strike through his liver; As a bird hasteth to the snare, And knoweth not that it is for his life.
The stranger and sex sin lead to death and destruction and you can’t turn back once you start Proverbs 2:18 For her house inclineth unto death, And her paths unto the dead. 19 None that go unto her return again, Neither take they hold of the paths of life. Proverbs 6:29 So he that goeth in to his neighbour’s wife; Whosoever toucheth her shall not be innocent.
Sin makes you think it is not a big deal
You never meant for it to be like it is
You will not escape, you are not innocent
You start down an incline, a slippery slope
Once most start they do not get back
What appeared to be fun will lead to a life of bitterness Proverbs 5:4 But her end is bitter as wormwood, Sharp as a twoedged sword. 5 Her feet go down to death; Her steps take hold on hell.
Starts nice, pleasure in sin for a season
Satan never shows the end result
Sin cuts going and coming and leads to death and destruction
You lose your honor Proverbs 5:9 Lest thou give thine honour unto others, And thy years unto the cruel: Proverbs 6:33 A wound and dishonour shall he get; And his reproach shall not be wiped away
You lose the respect of others
You get a stain that you can’t get rid of
You ruin your reputation
What seemed like fun ends up making you a cruel joke
You are left with wounds, dishonor, and a reproach
You get sexual diseases Proverbs 5:11 And thou mourn at the last, When thy flesh and thy body are consumed,
Eventually sin sickens
Dad warns his son that sin will destroy his body
Poverty Proverbs 6:26 For by means of a whorish woman a man is brought to a piece of bread: And the adulteress will hunt for the precious life.
They spend for their sin and the fun they think it brings
It ends up making them poverty stricken
You destroy or corrupt your soul Proverbs 6:32 But whoso committeth adultery with a woman lacketh understanding: He that doeth it destroyeth his own soul
Getting involved in this sin only proves your foolishness
You think you can get away but it ends up destroying you
Even the strongest can’t win Proverbs 7:26 For she hath cast down many wounded: Yea, many strong men have been slain by her.
