Sinfully Proud of the Wrong Thing

Jeremiah 9:23 Thus saith the Lord, Let not the wise man glory in his wisdom, Neither let the mighty man glory in his might, Let not the rich man glory in his riches: 24 But let him that glorieth glory in this, That he understandeth and knoweth me, That I am the Lord which exercise lovingkindness, judgment, and righteousness, in the earth: For in these things I delight, saith the Lord.
Broken hearted over the condition of God’s people Jeremiah 9:1 Oh that my head were waters, and mine eyes a fountain of tears, That I might weep day and night for the slain of the daughter of my people!
Horrible destruction is coming on the nation of Israel
They will be deported and God will cease to use them as His great people
Today we as God’s people, need to weep once again
About the apostasy II Thessalonians 2:3 Let no man deceive you by any means: for that day shall not come, except there come a falling away first, and that man of sin be revealed, the son of perdition; Matthew 24:12 And because iniquity shall abound, the love of many shall wax cold.
End time conditions II Timothy 4:3 For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine; but after their own lusts shall they heap to themselves teachers, having itching ears; 4 And they shall turn away their ears from the truth, and shall be turned unto fables. II Timothy 3:5 Having a form of godliness, but denying the power thereof: from such turn away.
Everyone lives and acts like nothing is going to happen Matthew 24:36 But of that day and hour knoweth no man, no, not the angels of heaven, but my Father only. 37 But as the days of Noe were, so shall also the coming of the Son of man be. 38 For as in the days that were before the flood they were eating and drinking, marrying and giving in marriage, until the day that Noe entered into the ark, 39 And knew not until the flood came, and took them all away; so shall also the coming of the Son of man be.
Partying like there is no tomorrow
Seems like all people think of is wickedness Genesis 6:5 And God saw that the wickedness of man was great in the earth, and that every imagination of the thoughts of his heart was only evil continually.
Even marriage is trivialized
We were warned that things would get bad II Timothy 3:1 This know also, that in the last days perilous times shall come. 2 For men shall be lovers of their own selves, covetous, boasters, proud, blasphemers, disobedient to parents, unthankful, unholy, 3 Without natural affection, trucebreakers, false accusers, incontinent, fierce, despisers of those that are good, 4 Traitors, heady, highminded, lovers of pleasures more than lovers of God;
The saddest part is not what the world is doing but that it is happening among God’s people
See the wickedness of the people
The people were so wicked that Jeremiah wanted to be far from them Jeremiah 9:2 Oh that I had in the wilderness a lodging place of wayfaring men; That I might leave my people, and go from them! For they be all adulterers, an assembly of treacherous men.
The people didn’t God Jeremiah 9:3 And they bend their tongues like their bow for lies:But they are not valiant for the truth upon the earth; For they proceed from evil to evil, And they know not me, saith the Lord.
They were liars Jeremiah 9:3 And they bend their tongues like their bow for lies:But they are not valiant for the truth upon the earth; For they proceed from evil to evil, And they know not me, saith the Lord. 4 Take ye heed every one of his neighbour, And trust ye not in any brother: For every brother will utterly supplant, And every neighbour will walk with slanders. 5 And they will deceive every one his neighbour, And will not speak the truth: They have taught their tongue to speak lies, And weary themselves to commit iniquity. 6 Thine habitation is in the midst of deceit; Through deceit they refuse to know me, saith the Lord.
Deceiving to be able to destroy Jeremiah 9:8 Their tongue is as an arrow shot out; it speaketh deceit: One speaketh peaceably to his neighbour with his mouth, But in heart he layeth his wait.
God will purify His people Jeremiah 9:7 Therefore thus saith the Lord of hosts, Behold, I will melt them, and try them; For how shall I do for the daughter of my people?
God will melt His people
This is the word of a gold or silversmith
Melt is to burn or refine
It is the idea of checking or examining
Melt means to reduce to first principles
The heat causes the impurities to come to the top and be able to be removed
Next, God said He would try them
That means to test or examine
Another word meaning that God was purifying His people
The idea of this verse is seen in the life of Peter Luke 22:31 And the Lord said, Simon, Simon, behold, Satan hath desired to have you, that he may sift you as wheat: 32 But I have prayed for thee, that thy faith fail not: and when thou art converted, strengthen thy brethren.
Prove your faith by how you deal with trials I Peter 1:6 Wherein ye greatly rejoice, though now for a season, if need be, ye are in heaviness through manifold temptations: 7 That the trial of your faith, being much more precious than of gold that perisheth, though it be tried with fire, might be found unto praise and honour and glory at the appearing of Jesus Christ:
The purifying has the purpose of completing us in our faith James 1:2 My brethren, count it all joy when ye fall into divers temptations; 3 Knowing this, that the trying of your faith worketh patience. 4 But let patience have her perfect work, that ye may be perfect and entire, wanting nothing.
God will judge His people for their sin Jeremiah 9:9 Shall I not visit them for these things? saith the Lord: Shall not my soul be avenged on such a nation as this?
He will destroy the city of Jerusalem Jeremiah 9:11 And I will make Jerusalem heaps, and a den of dragons; And I will make the cities of Judah desolate, without an inhabitant.
They will live in bitterness of soul Jeremiah 9:15 Therefore thus saith the Lord of hosts, the God of Israel; Behold, I will feed them, even this people, with wormwood, And give them water of gall to drink.
They will be scattered Jeremiah 9:16 I will scatter them also among the heathen, whom neither they nor their fathers have known: And I will send a sword after them, till I have consumed them.
They will be greatly suffering Jeremiah 9:19 For a voice of wailing is heard out of Zion, How are we spoiled! We are greatly confounded, because we have forsaken the land, Because our dwellings have cast us out.
Their destruction will be horrible Jeremiah 9:22 Speak, Thus saith the Lord, Even the carcases of men shall fall as dung upon the open field, And as the handful after the harvestman, and none shall gather them.
God will judge His people Jeremiah 9:13 And the Lord saith, Because they have forsaken my law which I set before them, And have not obeyed my voice, neither walked therein; 14 But have walked after the imagination of their own heart, And after Baalim, which their fathers taught them:
The problem is how they dealt with the Word of God
They forsook the law
They didn’t obey His voice
They didn’t walk in what He said
They did what they thought was right
They did what their parents taught them
They served a false God
Proud of the right thing
Do not be proud of the following
Your wisdom Jeremiah 9:23 Thus saith the Lord, Let not the wise man glory in his wisdom,
Your strength Jeremiah 9:23 Neither let the mighty man glory in his might,
Your wealth Jeremiah 9:23 Let not the rich man glory in his riches:
Glory in understanding and knowing God Jeremiah 9:24 But let him that glorieth glory in this, That he understandeth and knoweth me,
What you are to understand and know about God Jeremiah 9:23 That I am the Lord which exercise lovingkindness, judgment, and righteousness, in the earth:
These are the things that God really enjoys Jeremiah 9:23 For in these things I delight, saith the Lord.
How can I understand and know God
Study to know God’s character
He likes to do and work at certain things
He likes to exercise lovingkindness
This is the idea of loyalty and faithfulness
It is making someone a confidant
It is being good, gracious, and faithful towards someone
It is like the proof of His mercy
It is what the word says, loving and kind as a part of His character
He exercises judgment
He makes the right decisions
He does right
He is the One that makes the decision
He exercises righteousness
God does what is right, and honest
He is loyal to His character
He is pure, no hidden motives, He is what He says that He is
I find out what He finds pleasure in
What does He want
What is He inclined to do
This is what He likes all the time, on a regular basis
I find these truths in the Bible, reading, meditating, memorizing, studying
I find these truths in fellowship with other believers, discipleship, Bible Study, preaching
I find the truth as I obey the truth and put it into practice in my life
Time to evaluate my life and what brings me pleasure, what I glory in
Do I glory in the right thing?
Do I glory in temporary, passing things or eternal things?
Is my joy in the Lord or in something of earthly value that I will eventually lose?
God will punish His people in the same way He does the wicked, lost people Jeremiah 9:25 Behold, the days come, saith the Lord, That I will punish all them which are circumcised with the uncircumcised; 26 Egypt, and Judah, and Edom, and the children of Ammon, and Moab, And all that are in the utmost corners, that dwell in the wilderness: For all these nations are uncircumcised, And all the house of Israel are uncircumcised in the heart.
What makes you think that being a part of His family gives you a get out of jail card?
Why would you want to make the grace of God a license for sin?
Do you somehow think that there are no consequences for sin?
God will not allow you to sin and get away with it even if you are His child or maybe even more will He discipline because you are His
