Sin takes Center Stage quickly Every time!

Genesis 8:15 And God spake unto Noah, saying, 16 Go forth of the ark, thou, and thy wife, and thy sons, and thy sons’ wives with thee. 17 Bring forth with thee every living thing that is with thee, of all flesh, both of fowl, and of cattle, and of every creeping thing that creepeth upon the earth; that they may breed abundantly in the earth, and be fruitful, and multiply upon the earth. 18 And Noah went forth, and his sons, and his wife, and his sons’ wives with him: 19 Every beast, every creeping thing, and every fowl, and whatsoever creepeth upon the earth, after their kinds, went forth out of the ark. 20 And Noah builded an altar unto the Lord; and took of every clean beast, and of every clean fowl, and offered burnt offerings on the altar. 21 And the Lord smelled a sweet savour; and the Lord said in his heart, I will not again curse the ground any more for man’s sake; for the imagination of man’s heart is evil from his youth; neither will I again smite any more every thing living, as I have done. 22 While the earth remaineth, seedtime and harvest, and cold and heat, and summer and winter, and day and night shall not cease. 9:1 And God blessed Noah and his sons, and said unto them, Be fruitful, and multiply, and replenish the earth. 2 And the fear of you and the dread of you shall be upon every beast of the earth, and upon every fowl of the air, upon all that moveth upon the earth, and upon all the fishes of the sea; into your hand are they delivered. 3 Every moving thing that liveth shall be meat for you; even as the green herb have I given you all things. 4 But flesh with the life thereof, which is the blood thereof, shall ye not eat. 5 And surely your blood of your lives will I require; at the hand of every beast will I require it, and at the hand of man; at the hand of every man’s brother will I require the life of man. 6 Whoso sheddeth man’s blood, by man shall his blood be shed: for in the image of God made he man. 7 And you, be ye fruitful, and multiply; bring forth abundantly in the earth, and multiply therein. 8 And God spake unto Noah, and to his sons with him, saying, 9 And I, behold, I establish my covenant with you, and with your seed after you; 10 And with every living creature that is with you, of the fowl, of the cattle, and of every beast of the earth with you; from all that go out of the ark, to every beast of the earth. 11 And I will establish my covenant with you; neither shall all flesh be cut off any more by the waters of a flood; neither shall there any more be a flood to destroy the earth. 12 And God said, This is the token of the covenant which I make between me and you and every living creature that is with you, for perpetual generations: 13 I do set my bow in the cloud, and it shall be for a token of a covenant between me and the earth. 14 And it shall come to pass, when I bring a cloud over the earth, that the bow shall be seen in the cloud: 15 And I will remember my covenant, which is between me and you and every living creature of all flesh; and the waters shall no more become a flood to destroy all flesh. 16 And the bow shall be in the cloud; and I will look upon it, that I may remember the everlasting covenant between God and every living creature of all flesh that is upon the earth. 17 And God said unto Noah, This is the token of the covenant, which I have established between me and all flesh that is upon the earth. 18 And the sons of Noah, that went forth of the ark, were Shem, and Ham, and Japheth: and Ham is the father of Canaan. 19 These are the three sons of Noah: and of them was the whole earth overspread. 20 And Noah began to be an husbandman, and he planted a vineyard: 21 And he drank of the wine, and was drunken; and he was uncovered within his tent. 22 And Ham, the father of Canaan, saw the nakedness of his father, and told his two brethren without. 23 And Shem and Japheth took a garment, and laid it upon both their shoulders, and went backward, and covered the nakedness of their father; and their faces were backward, and they saw not their father’s nakedness. 24 And Noah awoke from his wine, and knew what his younger son had done unto him. 25 And he said, Cursed be Canaan; A servant of servants shall he be unto his brethren. 26 And he said, Blessed be the Lord God of Shem; And Canaan shall be his servant. 27 God shall enlarge Japheth, And he shall dwell in the tents of Shem; And Canaan shall be his servant. 28 And Noah lived after the flood three hundred and fifty years. 29 And all the days of Noah were nine hundred and fifty years: and he died. 10:1 Now these are the generations of the sons of Noah, Shem, Ham, and Japheth: and unto them were sons born after the flood. 2 The sons of Japheth; Gomer, and Magog, and Madai, and Javan, and Tubal, and Meshech, and Tiras. 3 And the sons of Gomer; Ashkenaz, and Riphath, and Togarmah. 4 And the sons of Javan; Elishah, and Tarshish, Kittim, and Dodanim. 5 By these were the isles of the Gentiles divided in their lands; every one after his tongue, after their families, in their nations. 6 And the sons of Ham; Cush, and Mizraim, and Phut, and Canaan. 7 And the sons of Cush; Seba, and Havilah, and Sabtah, and Raamah, and Sabtecha: and the sons of Raamah; Sheba, and Dedan. 8 And Cush begat Nimrod: he began to be a mighty one in the earth. 9 He was a mighty hunter before the Lord: wherefore it is said, Even as Nimrod the mighty hunter before the Lord. 10 And the beginning of his kingdom was Babel, and Erech, and Accad, and Calneh, in the land of Shinar. 11 Out of that land went forth Asshur, and builded Nineveh, and the city Rehoboth, and Calah, 12 And Resen between Nineveh and Calah: the same is a great city. 13 And Mizraim begat Ludim, and Anamim, and Lehabim, and Naphtuhim, 14 And Pathrusim, and Casluhim, (out of whom came Philistim,) and Caphtorim. 15 And Canaan begat Sidon his firstborn, and Heth, 16 And the Jebusite, and the Amorite, and the Girgasite, 17 And the Hivite, and the Arkite, and the Sinite, 18 And the Arvadite, and the Zemarite, and the Hamathite: and afterward were the families of the Canaanites spread abroad. 19 And the border of the Canaanites was from Sidon, as thou comest to Gerar, unto Gaza; as thou goest, unto Sodom, and Gomorrah, and Admah, and Zeboim, even unto Lasha. 20 These are the sons of Ham, after their families, after their tongues, in their countries, and in their nations. 21 Unto Shem also, the father of all the children of Eber, the brother of Japheth the elder, even to him were children born. 22 The children of Shem; Elam, and Asshur, and Arphaxad, and Lud, and Aram. 23 And the children of Aram; Uz, and Hul, and Gether, and Mash. 24 And Arphaxad begat Salah; and Salah begat Eber. 25 And unto Eber were born two sons: the name of one was Peleg; for in his days was the earth divided; and his brother’s name was Joktan. 26 And Joktan begat Almodad, and Sheleph, and Hazarmaveth, and Jerah, 27 And Hadoram, and Uzal, and Diklah, 28 And Obal, and Abimael, and Sheba, 29 And Ophir, and Havilah, and Jobab: all these were the sons of Joktan. 30 And their dwelling was from Mesha, as thou goest unto Sephar a mount of the east. 31 These are the sons of Shem, after their families, after their tongues, in their lands, after their nations. 32 These are the families of the sons of Noah, after their generations, in their nations: and by these were the nations divided in the earth after the flood.
Noah waited on God to know when to get off the ark. That must have been quite difficult after so much time
We must be careful not to lean on our own understanding Proverbs 3:5-6 Trust in the Lord with all thine heart; And lean not unto thine own understanding. 6 In all thy ways acknowledge him, And he shall direct thy paths.
He sent out the birds to gather information
But he still waited
You will be tempted to gather info and act without seeking God
Noah had already been a witness and a worker now he comes to worship.
Noah and his family worship 20 And Noah builded an altar unto the Lord; and took of every clean beast, and of every clean fowl, and offered burnt offerings on the altar.
He offered animals to God that were a symbol
These were animals that he had invested in, taking care of them for a year. He and his family may have come to love the animals
This is what they did as they prepared for the Passover
God wanted the little animal you had to kill to become precious to you so that you would see the preciousness of His Son
He will give the animals completely to the Lord in sacrifice symbolizing complete dedication
Noah was giving himself and his family in full commitment to the Lord
God made provision for the sacrifice 20 And Noah builded an altar unto the Lord; and took of every clean beast, and of every clean fowl, and offered burnt offerings on the altar. 7:2 Of every clean beast thou shalt take to thee by sevens, the male and his female: and of beasts that are not clean by two, the male and his female. 3 Of fowls also of the air by sevens, the male and the female; to keep seed alive upon the face of all the earth.
You make a major mistake when you do not understand that God is making provision for your offering
He provides you with what He wants you to honor Him with
David realized this truth and it will radically change your life I Chronicles 29:12 Both riches and honour come of thee, and thou reignest over all; and in thine hand is power and might; and in thine hand it is to make great, and to give strength unto all. 13 Now therefore, our God, we thank thee, and praise thy glorious name. 14 But who am I, and what is my people, that we should be able to offer so willingly after this sort? for all things come of thee, and of thine own have we given thee.
When Israel left Egypt God caused them to give great riches to them. They then used those riches to build His temple
God accepted the sacrifice 21 And the Lord smelled a sweet savour; and the Lord said in his heart, I will not again curse the ground any more for man’s sake; for the imagination of man’s heart is evil from his youth; neither will I again smite any more every thing living, as I have done.
The Lord smelled the sweet savour. He accepted the sacrifice
This is a picture of what He does as He accepts Jesus sacrifice Ephesians 5:2 And walk in love, as Christ also hath loved us, and hath given himself for us an offering and a sacrifice to God for a sweetsmelling savour.
We never please God on our own. We are pleasing him as we are in Christ II Corinthians 5:17 Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new. 21 For he hath made him to be sin for us, who knew no sin; that we might be made the righteousness of God in him. Ephesians 1:6 To the praise of the glory of his grace, wherein he hath made us accepted in the beloved.
God establishes a covenant with man and the animals Genesis 6:18 But with thee will I establish my covenant; and thou shalt come into the ark, thou, and thy sons, and thy wife, and thy sons’ wives with thee.
He would put no additional curse on the earth 8:21 And the Lord smelled a sweet savour; and the Lord said in his heart, I will not again curse the ground any more for man’s sake; for the imagination of man’s heart is evil from his youth; neither will I again smite any more every thing living, as I have done.
Notice and remember that man is still evil but God is going to have mercy and grace
Man is thinking evil from the time he is small
No more universal floods 9:11 And I will establish my covenant with you; neither shall all flesh be cut off any more by the waters of a flood; neither shall there any more be a flood to destroy the earth.
No more interruptions of the cycle of nature 8:22 While the earth remaineth, seedtime and harvest, and cold and heat, and summer and winter, and day and night shall not cease.
Capital punishment instituted Genesis 9:5 And surely your blood of your lives will I require; at the hand of every beast will I require it, and at the hand of man; at the hand of every man’s brother will I require the life of man. 6 Whoso sheddeth man’s blood, by man shall his blood be shed: for in the image of God made he man.
The rainbow would be the sign of the covenant
It was for God to look at even though man would be blessed looking
The cross is where God looks when he sees us but is a blessing for us
Truths about the covenants Genesis 8:20-22 And Noah builded an altar unto the Lord; and took of every clean beast, and of every clean fowl, and offered burnt offerings on the altar.
They are unilateral Genesis 9:8 And I, behold, I establish my covenant with you, and with your seed after you; 9:11 And I will establish my covenant with you; neither shall all flesh be cut off any more by the waters of a flood; neither shall there any more be a flood to destroy the earth.
They are eternal
They are of grace
This covenant is important
Remember the law of the first mention, that is how God will use a word in His book as you read it
Noah is the recipient of the covenant
The covenant was God’s idea
God decided to save the human race through Noah and his family
The covenant was one-sided, God towards Noah-no conditions
The covenant was for the whole human race and even the animals
God had a sign for His covenant
It was an everlasting covenant
Other covenants will follow and will follow this pattern
God will make a covenant with Israel to give them certain lands
He will multiply Abraham’s seed
It too would be an everlasting covenant
There will be other covenants with conditions like circumcision or the sabbath day for the Jewish people
4 main covenants to consider in your study
The covenant with all humankind that there will not be another worldwide flood
The covenant with Abraham that he will father a great nation, many people, and certain lands given to them
David will always have an heir sitting on the throne eternally, Jesus was the son of David in that sense
Christ would die for men to be saved, eternally secure
Wine brings chaos Genesis 9:19 These are the three sons of Noah: and of them was the whole earth overspread.
This is the first mention of wine
Sin has consequences
Canaan will follow in the steps of his dad and do wrong, making him a servant, wicked, perverted
Abraham will lie and his son Isaac will do the same
The son’s sin
Mocking his father instead of honoring him
Shem and Japheth show their love by covering his nakedness Proverbs 10:12 Hatred stirreth up strifes: But love covereth all sins. 12:16 A fool’s wrath is presently known: But a prudent man covereth shame. 17:9 He that covereth a transgression seeketh love; But he that repeateth a matter separateth very friends. I Peter 4:8 And above all things have fervent charity among yourselves: for charity shall cover the multitude of sins.
The curse or prophecy 25 And he said, Cursed be Canaan; A servant of servants shall he be unto his brethren. 26 And he said, Blessed be the Lord God of Shem; And Canaan shall be his servant. 27 God shall enlarge Japheth, And he shall dwell in the tents of Shem; And Canaan shall be his servant.
Noah speaks about the future of all of his sons
The curse wasn’t on the son that sinned, Ham, but on his son who didn't
Your sins often affect your children more than they do you
Your sins get imitated
It is more caught than taught
It is actions not words
Your actions are speaking so loudly that I can't hear what you are saying
Canaan will be a servant to the rest. The Canaanites become the ones that will be killed in the future conquests of Israel
Japeth will be the warrior tribe
Shem will be the Father of the Jewish nation, David, and eventually the earthly parents of Jesus
Noah receives a horrible stain on his name that is the last thing mentioned about him before he dies.
It should be our prayer to finish well.
In old age we get lazy
We begin to coast
We leave the ministry to the young
We feel like we have paid our dues
We don't care for our part of the load
Our passion dries up, the flame goes out
We are here but not really.
Let your last works be better than your first
Let your life count till the end
Don't start drying up like the world teaches you to do
God sets up a human government that obviously goes awry Genesis 9:5 And surely your blood of your lives will I require; at the hand of every beast will I require it, and at the hand of man; at the hand of every man’s brother will I require the life of man. 6 Whoso sheddeth man’s blood, by man shall his blood be shed: for in the image of God made he man.
God places man in charge of protecting other men
Noah prophesied about how his children would turn out
You can begin to see how your children are headed as you parent them
There will be human government now and we are taught to respect the government Romans 13:1 Let every soul be subject unto the higher powers. For there is no power but of God: the powers that be are ordained of God. 2 Whosoever therefore resisteth the power, resisteth the ordinance of God: and they that resist shall receive to themselves damnation. 3 For rulers are not a terror to good works, but to the evil. Wilt thou then not be afraid of the power? do that which is good, and thou shalt have praise of the same: 4 For he is the minister of God to thee for good. But if thou do that which is evil, be afraid; for he beareth not the sword in vain: for he is the minister of God, a revenger to execute wrath upon him that doeth evil. 5 Wherefore ye must needs be subject, not only for wrath, but also for conscience sake.
Government can't develop morality
A healthy government needs healthy citizens
The church is salt and light but never government! We are not to command people to serve God but to give them a desire and sample of serving God
Let your life be light and salt. Don’t try to make people do right! (except your children of course)
