Sin destroys a Christian Home

Genesis 19:1 And there came two angels to Sodom at even; and Lot sat in the gate of Sodom: and Lot seeing them rose up to meet them; and he bowed himself with his face toward the ground; 2 And he said, Behold now, my lords, turn in, I pray you, into your servant’s house, and tarry all night, and wash your feet, and ye shall rise up early, and go on your ways. And they said, Nay; but we will abide in the street all night. 3 And he pressed upon them greatly; and they turned in unto him, and entered into his house; and he made them a feast, and did bake unleavened bread, and they did eat. 4 But before they lay down, the men of the city, even the men of Sodom, compassed the house round, both old and young, all the people from every quarter: 5 And they called unto Lot, and said unto him, Where are the men which came in to thee this night? bring them out unto us, that we may know them. 6 And Lot went out at the door unto them, and shut the door after him, 7 And said, I pray you, brethren, do not so wickedly. 8 Behold now, I have two daughters which have not known man; let me, I pray you, bring them out unto you, and do ye to them as is good in your eyes: only unto these men do nothing; for therefore came they under the shadow of my roof. 9 And they said, Stand back. And they said again, This one fellow came in to sojourn, and he will needs be a judge: now will we deal worse with thee, than with them. And they pressed sore upon the man, even Lot, and came near to break the door. 10 But the men put forth their hand, and pulled Lot into the house to them, and shut to the door. 11 And they smote the men that were at the door of the house with blindness, both small and great: so that they wearied themselves to find the door. 12 And the men said unto Lot, Hast thou here any besides? son in law, and thy sons, and thy daughters, and whatsoever thou hast in the city, bring them out of this place: 13 For we will destroy this place, because the cry of them is waxen great before the face of the Lord; and the Lord hath sent us to destroy it. 14 And Lot went out, and spake unto his sons in law, which married his daughters, and said, Up, get you out of this place; for the Lord will destroy this city. But he seemed as one that mocked unto his sons in law. 15 And when the morning arose, then the angels hastened Lot, saying, Arise, take thy wife, and thy two daughters, which are here; lest thou be consumed in the iniquity of the city. 16 And while he lingered, the men laid hold upon his hand, and upon the hand of his wife, and upon the hand of his two daughters; the Lord being merciful unto him: and they brought him forth, and set him without the city. 17 And it came to pass, when they had brought them forth abroad, that he said, Escape for thy life; look not behind thee, neither stay thou in all the plain; escape to the mountain, lest thou be consumed. 18 And Lot said unto them, Oh, not so, my Lord: 19 Behold now, thy servant hath found grace in thy sight, and thou hast magnified thy mercy, which thou hast shewed unto me in saving my life; and I cannot escape to the mountain, lest some evil take me, and I die: 20 Behold now, this city is near to flee unto, and it is a little one: Oh, let me escape thither, (is it not a little one?) and my soul shall live. 21 And he said unto him, See, I have accepted thee concerning this thing also, that I will not overthrow this city, for the which thou hast spoken. 22 Haste thee, escape thither; for I cannot do any thing till thou be come thither. Therefore the name of the city was called Zoar. 23 The sun was risen upon the earth when Lot entered into Zoar. 24 Then the Lord rained upon Sodom and upon Gomorrah brimstone and fire from the Lord out of heaven; 25 And he overthrew those cities, and all the plain, and all the inhabitants of the cities, and that which grew upon the ground. 26 But his wife looked back from behind him, and she became a pillar of salt. 27 And Abraham gat up early in the morning to the place where he stood before the Lord: 28 And he looked toward Sodom and Gomorrah, and toward all the land of the plain, and beheld, and, lo, the smoke of the country went up as the smoke of a furnace. 29 And it came to pass, when God destroyed the cities of the plain, that God remembered Abraham, and sent Lot out of the midst of the overthrow, when he overthrew the cities in the which Lot dwelt.

30 And Lot went up out of Zoar, and dwelt in the mountain, and his two daughters with him; for he feared to dwell in Zoar: and he dwelt in a cave, he and his two daughters. 31 And the firstborn said unto the younger, Our father is old, and there is not a man in the earth to come in unto us after the manner of all the earth: 32 Come, let us make our father drink wine, and we will lie with him, that we may preserve seed of our father. 33 And they made their father drink wine that night: and the firstborn went in, and lay with her father; and he perceived not when she lay down, nor when she arose. 34 And it came to pass on the morrow, that the firstborn said unto the younger, Behold, I lay yesternight with my father: let us make him drink wine this night also; and go thou in, and lie with him, that we may preserve seed of our father. 35 And they made their father drink wine that night also: and the younger arose, and lay with him; and he perceived not when she lay down, nor when she arose. 36 Thus were both the daughters of Lot with child by their father. 37 And the firstborn bare a son, and called his name Moab: the same is the father of the Moabites unto this day. 38 And the younger, she also bare a son, and called his name Ben-ammi: the same is the father of the children of Ammon unto this day.

  1. No matter how low you sink, He will never leave you or forsake you! Genesis 19:1 And there came two angels to Sodom at even; and Lot sat in the gate of Sodom: and Lot seeing them rose up to meet them; and he bowed himself with his face toward the ground;

  2. The angels that gladly stayed with Abraham have to be convinced to go into Lot’s house 2 And he said, Behold now, my lords, turn in, I pray you, into your servant’s house, and tarry all night, and wash your feet, and ye shall rise up early, and go on your ways. And they said, Nay; but we will abide in the street all night. 3 And he pressed upon them greatly; and they turned in unto him, and entered into his house; and he made them a feast, and did bake unleavened bread, and they did eat.

  3. Lot is in a city that is about to be judged

  4. Lot will actually lose most of what he has

  5. He has walked away from the right paths and gone where he shouldn’t have gone

  6. But still, God doesn’t forget him 29 And it came to pass, when God destroyed the cities of the plain, that God remembered Abraham, and sent Lot out of the midst of the overthrow, when he overthrew the cities in the which Lot dwelt.

  7. If you do wrong, God will still love you. He will come get you. He will protect you. But why would you take such advantage of His love, grace, and mercy!

  8. Lot’s sin embarrasses him 5 And they called unto Lot, and said unto him, Where are the men which came in to thee this night? bring them out unto us, that we may know them.

  9. They came to his house before they could get in bed for the evening

  10. Lot steps outside and begs them not to do such a wicked thing to his guest

  11. He calls them his brothers 7 And said, I pray you, brethren, do not so wickedly.

  12. He has fallen so low in sin that he offers his virgin daughters to the sodomites 8 Behold now, I have two daughters which have not known man; let me, I pray you, bring them out unto you, and do ye to them as is good in your eyes: only unto these men do nothing; for therefore came they under the shadow of my roof.

  13. The sodomites are not interested in his daughters. They want to sexually abuse the men

  14. They mock Lot for thinking he has a right to judge them 9 And they said, Stand back. And they said again, This one fellow came in to sojourn, and he will needs be a judge: now will we deal worse with thee, than with them. And they pressed sore upon the man, even Lot, and came near to break the door.

  15. The angels save Lot and his daughters by blinding the sodomites.

  16. The sodomites wanted to commit perverted acts so much that they didn't stop trying to get in all night long 10 But the men put forth their hand, and pulled Lot into the house to them, and shut to the door. 11 And they smote the men that were at the door of the house with blindness, both small and great: so that they wearied themselves to find the door.

  17. Lot had lost the respect of his family 12 And the men said unto Lot, Hast thou here any besides? son in law, and thy sons, and thy daughters, and whatsoever thou hast in the city, bring them out of this place: 13 For we will destroy this place, because the cry of them is waxen great before the face of the Lord; and the Lord hath sent us to destroy it. 14 And Lot went out, and spake unto his sons in law, which married his daughters, and said, Up, get you out of this place; for the Lord will destroy this city. But he seemed as one that mocked unto his sons in law.

  18. Lot had walked with God’s man and with God in the past

  19. He decided to make his own decisions and choose his own direction

  20. He wanted to fit in

  21. He wanted the comforts of the world more than he wanted a relationship with God

  22. He lost his testimony as a man of God

  23. I doubt they saw him worshipping God

  24. He obviously wasn’t making disciples

  25. He had compromised with the world and even become a leader among the sodomites

  26. Apparently, he didn't work at expressing his love for his family and showing his concern for the spiritual well being

  27. They knew that he didn't live it even if he talked it

  28. He had daughters that were married. He lost them, any children they had, his sons in law

  29. They refused to believe him when he most needed them to believe

  30. Even in the face of discipline and God’s work in his life, he wants to do life his way 18 And Lot said unto them, Oh, not so, my Lord:

  31. He was told to get out of town and take his wife and daughters so they didn't get consumed in the wicked sin of the place 15 And when the morning arose, then the angels hastened Lot, saying, Arise, take thy wife, and thy two daughters, which are here; lest thou be consumed in the iniquity of the city.

  32. Even under orders to leave, he lingers 16 And while he lingered, the men laid hold upon his hand, and upon the hand of his wife, and upon the hand of his two daughters; the Lord being merciful unto him: and they brought him forth, and set him without the city.

  33. He is told to get out and far away to the mountain or die, be consumed and hurt in the destruction that is coming 17 And it came to pass, when they had brought them forth abroad, that he said, Escape for thy life; look not behind thee, neither stay thou in all the plain; escape to the mountain, lest thou be consumed.

  34. He refuses to trust God to protect him and still thinks that he can protect himself 19 Behold now, thy servant hath found grace in thy sight, and thou hast magnified thy mercy, which thou hast shewed unto me in saving my life; and I cannot escape to the mountain, lest some evil take me, and I die:

  35. He wants to live in a city, even a small one 20 Behold now, this city is near to flee unto, and it is a little one: Oh, let me escape thither, (is it not a little one?) and my soul shall live.

  36. Surrender. Do not try to make deals with God. He might just give you what you want and let you deal with the consequences 21 And he said unto him, See, I have accepted thee concerning this thing also, that I will not overthrow this city, for the which thou hast spoken.

  37. God answers prayer

  38. He is kind to give us what we want

  39. Real prayer is learning to ask Him what He wants more than seeking what I want

  40. Real prayer is asking Him for wisdom instead of doing my own thinking

  41. Consider what your thinking has done for you. Look where it has gotten you

  42. Contrast the man of God with Lot in this story 27 And Abraham gat up early in the morning to the place where he stood before the Lord:

  43. Abraham has a habit of seeking God

  44. He is waiting on God to see what He is going to do

  45. God and Abraham have a special friendship that makes a difference 29 And it came to pass, when God destroyed the cities of the plain, that God remembered Abraham, and sent Lot out of the midst of the overthrow, when he overthrew the cities in the which Lot dwelt.

  46. Lot loses everything that he has

  47. His wife so much wants to be in Sodom that she turns back and turns to a pillar of salt 26 But his wife looked back from behind him, and she became a pillar of salt.

  48. Lot’s married daughters and their families have died in the fire

  49. All his possessions are gone. He only has what is on his back and he could carry out

  50. He is afraid and ends up hiding in a cave 30 And Lot went up out of Zoar, and dwelt in the mountain, and his two daughters with him; for he feared to dwell in Zoar: and he dwelt in a cave, he and his two daughters.

  51. Sin continues to carry Lot down 31 And the firstborn said unto the younger, Our father is old, and there is not a man in the earth to come in unto us after the manner of all the earth: 32 Come, let us make our father drink wine, and we will lie with him, that we may preserve seed of our father.

  52. His daughter fear that no man will ever want them now

  53. They get their dad drunk and sleep with him

  54. Children will be born to him that will cause trouble for God’s people all through history

  55. Lot got drunk

  56. Just how do you get a guy drunk that doesn’t drink?

  57. He apparently had the custom of enjoying his alcohol

  58. He got so drunk he didn't even know what he was doing

  59. This is the second mention of alcohol in the Bible and is another horrible story that destroys another family

  60. The first story was Noah and his sons

  61. Now Lot’s daughters and the entire family is affected by his drinking

  62. Sin destroys a Christian home

  63. Lot was a saved man even though there is not one shred of evidence of that in this story II Peter 2:6 And turning the cities of Sodom and Gomorrha into ashes condemned them with an overthrow, making them an ensample unto those that after should live ungodly; 7 And delivered just Lot, vexed with the filthy conversation of the wicked: 8 (For that righteous man dwelling among them, in seeing and hearing, vexed his righteous soul from day to day with their unlawful deeds;) 9 The Lord knoweth how to deliver the godly out of temptations, and to reserve the unjust unto the day of judgment to be punished:

  64. This story should help you examine your life and decide that you will live a holy life and give a godly example to your home

  65. God does love you.

  66. Your relationship with Him is not performance-based

  67. But your blessings and happiness in many ways are

  68. He will not forget you or leave you

  69. He will however allow you to suffer the consequences of your stupidity

  70. If you choose to not honor Him and not live out who you are, then you will not enjoy all that He has for you

  71. You should never choose to sin so that grace may abound

  72. You should not use His grace and His love as a license to sin or an excuse to ignore Him

  73. Un-repented sin will always catch up with us. It will embarrass you. You will get called out on it

  74. If you say one thing and live another, you may lose the respect of your children

  75. It might not happen in a day

  76. They may have to be adults before they realize it

  77. But you can’t be a hypocrite and expect it not to affect your children

  78. How stubbornly do you serve God? Are you always about getting God to do in your life and with you what you want?

  79. This is what led to Lot sleeping with his own daughter

  80. Lot will be embarrassed and drunk because he chooses what is best for his life

  81. This is the same mistake he made with Abraham and his cattle

  82. Loving sin will cause you to linger there even when you are getting the devil beat out of you

  83. This same pride and arrogance refuses to believe that God can and will protect him.

  84. He wants the city but ends up in the cave

  85. Be careful not to pray for things that might end up hurting you and your family

  86. Realize that wine is a mocker and strong drink is raging and many get fooled by its appeal

  87. I am sure that Lot thought that only a little alcohol wouldn’t hurt

  88. He made excuses for the luxury

  89. He never thought it would take him that far down the road

  90. He would never have slept with his daughter

  91. He would never have sunk so low

  92. But you can’t control sin

  93. Let me remind you that you do not have to serve sin

  94. You have no excuse.

  95. Sin has no power over you

  96. You end up on the cave, having lost it all because you choose day by day, choice by choice not to do what you should

  97. It is not the big decision that usually gets us in trouble. It is the small, everyday decision

  98. You have victory. Why don't you go out and live up to who He made you to be?
