Sin brought Storms

Genesis 6:1 And it came to pass, when men began to multiply on the face of the earth, and daughters were born unto them, 2 That the sons of God saw the daughters of men that they were fair; and they took them wives of all which they chose. 3 And the Lord said, My spirit shall not always strive with man, for that he also is flesh: yet his days shall be an hundred and twenty years. 4 There were giants in the earth in those days; and also after that, when the sons of God came in unto the daughters of men, and they bare children to them, the same became mighty men which were of old, men of renown. 5 And God saw that the wickedness of man was great in the earth, and that every imagination of the thoughts of his heart was only evil continually. 6 And it repented the Lord that he had made man on the earth, and it grieved him at his heart. 7 And the Lord said, I will destroy man whom I have created from the face of the earth; both man, and beast, and the creeping thing, and the fowls of the air; for it repenteth me that I have made them. 8 But Noah found grace in the eyes of the Lord. 9 These are the generations of Noah: Noah was a just man and perfect in his generations, and Noah walked with God. 10 And Noah begat three sons, Shem, Ham, and Japheth. 11 The earth also was corrupt before God, and the earth was filled with violence. 12 And God looked upon the earth, and, behold, it was corrupt; for all flesh had corrupted his way upon the earth. 13 And God said unto Noah, The end of all flesh is come before me; for the earth is filled with violence through them; and, behold, I will destroy them with the earth.
Compromise, mixing with the world 2 That the sons of God saw the daughters of men that they were fair; and they took them wives of all which they chose. 4 There were giants in the earth in those days; and also after that, when the sons of God came in unto the daughters of men, and they bare children to them, the same became mighty men which were of old, men of renown.
Compromise is being friendly with the world James 4:4 Ye adulterers and adulteresses, know ye not that the friendship of the world is enmity with God? whosoever therefore will be a friend of the world is the enemy of God.
The world is the system of rebellion against God
It is the idea of doing your own thing, thinking your own way, doing what you want
It is the system that rejects the Lordship of Jesus Christ
It is the system that walks away from God
It is the system that eats of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil and thinks they know what is best
Compromise is loving the world I John 2:15 Love not the world, neither the things that are in the world. If any man love the world, the love of the Father is not in him. 16 For all that is in the world, the lust of the flesh, and the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life, is not of the Father, but is of the world. 17 And the world passeth away, and the lust thereof: but he that doeth the will of God abideth for ever.
There is a contrast between this world that we can see and the one that we can't see
There is what is physically pleasing versus what is spiritually pleasing
Notice the emphasis on things-we can have things but things should never have us
To understand what this world includes He gives us a list of 3 things
Lust of the flesh
Sexual sins are probably implied here, adultery, fornication, homosexuality, Beastiality
Addictions
Anything of the body, what the body desires that God forbids or warns against
Lust of the eyes
Probably coveting or desiring things that belong to someone else
We see beauty and want it
Everything appeals to our eyes
Pride of life
Position and respect of people
Self-worth and value that is pushed so much today, self-esteem, loving ourselves
Believing in ourselves
Conform to the world Romans 12:2 And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God.
The real point here is not the outward appearance but rather our thought lives
We are not to think and act like those that do not love Jesus
We do not model our lives after TV, movie, and other celebrities
We do not want to accept the way this world thinks
Not be separated from the world II Corinthians 6:14 Be ye not unequally yoked together with unbelievers: for what fellowship hath righteousness with unrighteousness? and what communion hath light with darkness?
Getting too close to the world can lead to being condemned with the world I Corinthians 11:32 But when we are judged, we are chastened of the Lord, that we should not be condemned with the world.
We will see what happens to Lot because of his worldliness Genesis 13, 19
Satan’s strongest weapon is to get us to be friendly with the world. To dilute the truth.
Compromise is the biggest insult we can give to the Lord Jesus Christ. We love Him some, we follow Him some but while we love Him we love others too!
Man is wicked and his thoughts are wicked 5 And God saw that the wickedness of man was great in the earth, and that every imagination of the thoughts of his heart was only evil continually.
We need to get an accurate picture of man
He is not good or even basically good.
Man left to himself always goes the wrong way and does the wrong thing. In 6 chapters there is a flood. In just a few more chapters the tower of Babel
After the flood destroys the world you would think that man would respond differently but look what the Bible says Genesis 8:21 And the Lord smelled a sweet savour; and the Lord said in his heart, I will not again curse the ground any more for man’s sake; for the imagination of man’s heart is evil from his youth; neither will I again smite any more every thing living, as I have done. Again in the New Testament Matthew 15:19 For out of the heart proceed evil thoughts, murders, adulteries, fornications, thefts, false witness, blasphemies:
All men have sinned. Sin comes to us through our parents and we sin willfully. We are sinners by nature and by choice. All men have sinned. None are good. Can you believe that?
Things get no better by the end of the New Testament Revelation 16:17 And the seventh angel poured out his vial into the air; and there came a great voice out of the temple of heaven, from the throne, saying, It is done. 18 And there were voices, and thunders, and lightnings; and there was a great earthquake, such as was not since men were upon the earth, so mighty an earthquake, and so great. 19 And the great city was divided into three parts, and the cities of the nations fell: and great Babylon came in remembrance before God, to give unto her the cup of the wine of the fierceness of his wrath. 20 And every island fled away, and the mountains were not found. 21 And there fell upon men a great hail out of heaven, every stone about the weight of a talent: and men blasphemed God because of the plague of the hail; for the plague thereof was exceeding great.
That is why all that can save is that God would do something for us through Jesus on the cross
God judges sin even though He is often patient 3 And the Lord said, My spirit shall not always strive with man, for that he also is flesh: yet his days shall be an hundred and twenty years.
God gave them 120 years to repent. They had a preacher. They had the opportunity yet they refused
God is patient with us giving us ample time to repent
Do not think that you can get away with your sin
R. G. Lee preached a sermon called Payday Someday and said "Payday - Someday!" God said it - and it was done! Yes, and from this we learn the power and certainty of God in carrying out His retributive providence, the men know that His justice slumbereth not. Even though the mill of God grinds slowly, it grinds to powder. Yes, the judgments of God often have heels and travel slowly. But they always have iron hands and crush completely ... And the only way I know for any man or woman on earth to escape the sinner's payday on earth and the sinner's hell beyond - making sure of the Christian's payday - is through Christ Jesus, who took the sinner's place on the cross. becoming for all sinners all that God must judge, that sinners through faith in Christ Jesus might become all that God cannot judge."
The flood did come and the world was completely destroyed
Man never gets away with sin and if he did it would mean that Jesus died in vain
Today is the day to get saved II Corinthians 6:2 (For he saith, I have heard thee in a time accepted, and in the day of salvation have I succoured thee: behold, now is the accepted time; behold, now is the day of salvation.)
God remembers His people even as they go through storms Genesis 8:1 And God remembered Noah, and every living thing, and all the cattle that was with him in the ark: and God made a wind to pass over the earth, and the waters asswaged;
Noah has been in the ark for nearly a year but God has not forgotten him
You may go through storms where it all seems to fall apart but He has never left you
Provision was made for all that Noah needed
God even gave what Noah would need for an offering and sacrifice to thank God Genesis 8:20 And Noah builded an altar unto the Lord; and took of every clean beast, and of every clean fowl, and offered burnt offerings on the altar.
Everything in the world that they could have loved outside of God’s will was destroyed
How are you dealing with your storm? Are you trusting God? Are you looking to see how He is at work in your life? Are you seeing His hand in all that is happening or are you getting aggravated that things aren't turning out like you want?
