“easy believism”

That, of course, is what is wrong with the “easy believism” characteristic of much preaching today. There is no conviction of sin and no repentance. The first work of the Holy Spirit in a human heart is to convince of sin, of righteousness, and of judgment to come—of the nature of sin, of the need for righteousness, and of the nearness of judgment. What we have today is profession without possession, conversion without repentance, and religion without the Holy Spirit or riddled with misconceptions about the Holy Spirit.
